What is the MontGomery K.O.S.S. Award?
KOSS is all about Keeping Our Schools Safe. Children aged 8-10 can earn the Montgomery KOSS Award by demonstrating good behavior: not bringing weapons to school, avoiding drugs, and being a positive role model. They must also be respectful, show leadership, volunteer, and read one book a month outside of school. Each child will be awarded a train ride, a trophy, and a Montgomery KOSS T-shirt.
Riding trains is a real life learning experience, encompassing geography, history, environmental science, and cultural awareness, while enhancing a child’s skills in navigation, time management, and social interaction.

Meet Marquise Hale
Pictured here during a serendipitous meeting at the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park. Back in 2010, 10 year old Marquise was a KOSS Award winnner. Fast forward to today, he fondly recalls the train adventure as a pivotal childhood experience. This chance encounter at the museum, where he recognized one of our founders, Eugene, from the train ride years ago, highlights the lasting impact these adventures can have.
